PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The team of the Ministry of Science and Technology led by Senator Shibli Faraz visited the University of Engineering and Technology (UAE) in Peshawar on Monday to demonstrate the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

It was aimed at allowing a better understanding of the workings of the EVM to the technical professionals as well as provide a learning opportunity for students.

In his remarks, the Federal Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz said that the government is making all-out efforts to take the opposition on board for electoral reforms and the use of EVM in elections.

The minister said that the use of ‘Electronic Voting Machines’ will enable over one point eight million Overseas Pakistanis to exercise their right to vote in the elections.

The minister said that every election in the past remained controversial due to the faults in the process of polling and counting.

Shibli Faraz said that through the electronic voting machine, the result can be calculated within 15 seconds.

The federal minister termed the objections on machines by the opposition as baseless.

Later, they also demonstrated the EVM at the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) in Peshawar to showcase its benefits to the business and industrial community.
