Elections 2013MQM to sit on opposition benches in Sindh, National Assembly

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) announced on Wednesday that it would sit on opposition benches in the National and Sindh Assembly.

According to the announcement made by the party’s Rabita committee after days of speculation, MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari would be the party’s parliamentary leader in the Sindh Assembly, whereas Sardar Ahmed would participate in the election for chief minister Sindh.

Dr. Farooq Sattar would be the MQM’s parliamentary leader in the National Assembly while Rashid Godal would be the party’s deputy leader.

MQM had secured 18 seats in the National Assembly during the May 11 elections. It had secured 37 seats in the Sindh provincial assembly.

Earlier, the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), who is forming a government in Sindh, had finalised a power-sharing formula whereby they intended to bring the MQM into the government, offering them up to five ministries in addition to advisory roles in the government.
