EducationNew Schedule for Reopening of Educational Institutions in Pakistan Announced

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood on Friday announced a new schedule for the reopening of Educational Institutions across Pakistan, according to which, Classes from 1-8 will now resume on February 1, 2021.

Earlier, the Early Childhood Education (CEC) – from Class 1 to Class 8 – was slated to begin on January 25; however, the opening date has now been extended to February 1.

The rest of the schedule remains unchanged as Classes of 9 to 12 will resume from 18 January while University classes will resume from February 1.

While briefing the media following a meeting held at the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) in Islamabad to review the COVID-19 situation, Shafqat Mahmood said that the closure of Educational Institutions affects children’s learning, adding that education has suffered a lot in the last eight months.

Shafqat Mahmood said that in 2021, no student will be promoted to the next Class without examination.

The education minister said that it has also been decided that the NCOC will review the Coronavirus situation next week and adopt a smart approach under which there is a possibility to keep the schools shut in those cities where the infection rate is comparatively high.
