Efforts afoot for early availability of COVID-19 vaccine in Pakistan, NCOC told

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC) was told on Wednesday that the government is in close liaison with leading COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers including those from China and regularly reviewing developments including data from Phase 3 trials.

The NCOC was told that these steps will lead to a final decision about the early availability of the COVID-19 vaccine for Pakistan.

Earlier in an interview with a Private News Channel, the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on National Health Services Dr. Faisal Sultan said that the COVID-19 vaccine would be available in Pakistan by March next.

Dr. Faisal Sultan said that the government is in touch with three Companies for purchasing the Coronavirus vaccine.

The Special Assistant said that the priority would be given in vaccination to health workers and the people of above 65 years age.

Meanwhile, 84 more people died of Coronavirus across the Country on December 22 including 44 in Punjab, 27 in Sindh, 10 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 2 in Islamabad, and 1 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

In the last 24 hours, 35,621 tests were conducted which found 2,142 people positive including 3,732 in Punjab, 3,379 in Sindh, 1,563 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 394 in Islamabad, 211 in AJK, 179 in Balochistan, and 99 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

So far, 415,352 COVID patients have recovered across Pakistan making it a significant count while as of December 23, the total Active COVID CASES in Pakistan are 37,905.

Currently, 2,931 patients are admitted in 615 hospitals having required COVID facilities across the Country.
