TourismSwat Valley hits by heavy flash floods

Mingora, Pakistan: Flash floods are sweeping away hotels and restaurants in the middle of Swat River and its feeding nullahs.

The worst situation is reported from Madyan Swat.

“Bahrain and Swat Madyan were terribly hit by 2010 floods because of encroachments on both sides of the Swat River and two main water feeding channels (Nullahs). Since 2014, illegal construction and encroachment again started along with River Swat,” said Swab Gull while talking to DND News Agency from Mingora.

Due to an alarming situation in Swat, people have started evacuating their homes as the floods have created havoc.

Karakorum Highway (KKH) is blocked since last 36 hours near Besham and a portion of KKH swept away with floods.

Local people claim that thousands of tourists are caught by floods and evacuation has yet to started.

“Situation is grave as there is no data available about how many tourists are beyond Madyan. Telephones, cellphones are not working and the road between Khawaakhela and Basham via Alpuri is also underwater.
