RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The two-day 14th National Thalassemia Conference and Workshop organized by the Thalassemia Federation of Pakistan (TFP) began at Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) on Thursday.

In his address at the 14th National Thalassemia Conference and Workshop in Rawalpindi, President Dr Arif Alvi emphasized the need for creating awareness in a well-organized manner to educate the people about various diseases and their prevention.

President Arif Alvi urged the media to create proper awareness with regard to the societal issues including thalassemia, hepatitis and depression.

The president said Thalassemia could be prevented through adopting precautionary measures.

Dr Arif Alvi said Prime Minister Imran Khan had given top priority to the health sector, and the government had also increased the budget of Ehsaas program and health-related programs, that was heartening.

While addressing the Conference, the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on National Health Services Regulations and Coordination Dr Zafar Mirza emphasized the need for paying vigorous attention on Thalassemia Prevention Programme to cope with the disease. He said Thalassemia could be eliminated to the significant extent through prevention.

Dr Zafar Mirza said awareness regarding screening and counseling of Thalassemia was of vital importance.

The special assistant said the health sector was amongst foremost priority according to the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
