ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Cabinet on Tuesday approved the establishment of Media University with its headquarters in Islamabad.

While briefing them in Islamabad following the Federal Cabinet meeting which met with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Chair, the Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry told that that media technology, digital media, cinematography, and other modern media techniques will be taught at the new state of the art University.

The information minister said that the Media University will be established after merging three academies namely PTV, Information Academy, and Pakistan Broadcasting Academy.

Fawad Chaudhry also told that during the Cabinet meeting, the prime minister directed to launch a crackdown against big fish involved in theft of electricity and gas. He said that pilferage of electricity worth Rs 40 billion has been prevented due to effective measures.

The minister said that cases have registered against those involved in gas and electricity theft. He said that gas worth Rs three billion was stolen in last three years, adding that 43 percent gas is being stolen. He said that 93 percent of gas in Karak district and 41 percent in Balochistan went unaccounted for.

Fawad Chaudhry said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Sheikh Rohail Asghar’s gas bill has gone up from mere Rs 1,200 to over Rs 10 million, which shows massive theft of the commodity.
