LAHORE, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Finance Asad Umar on Friday presided over the meeting of the 9th National Finance Commission (NFC) in Lahore, at which the Sindh government raised reservations on the distribution of NFC Share.
Sources said that the Sindh government put forward demands to increase the Share of Sindh in NFC. It was of the view that there should not be any discrimination with the Sindh province in NFC Share.
The provincial finance ministers and finance secretaries amongst others attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed the resource distribution formula between the Center and the federating units.
During the meeting, Asad Umer briefed the provinces on the current fiscal position of the federal government and the economic issues facing the Country.
The finance minister also took the provinces into confidence over the ongoing negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to seek loan from the international body.
It was the fifth meeting of the 9th NFC hosted by Punjab in Lahore.
The 9th NFC award has been in limbo since July 2015. The last NFC Award was signed in December 2009 when the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was in power, and in which greater share was given to the provinces from the federal divisible pool.
