ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Dr. Fehmida Mirza has underscored the need of Common Wealth Countries to join hands to resolve all longstanding issues including Kashmir dispute and to promote international peace, security and foster goodwill and friendly relations among the member Countries.

In her opening remarks at the Seminar on Commonwealth Day organized by Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Studies (PIPS) in Islamabad, the minister congratulated PIPS for playing an instrumental role in strengthening democracy and rule of law.

On Common Wealth Day Celebration, Dr. Fehmida Mirza said that Common Wealth is a family of nations across the globe and CPA (Common Wealth Parliamentary Association) is a forum to promote the knowledge of constitutional legislative, economic, social, and cultures of Parliamentary democracy with particular reference to the Common Wealth nations.

Dr. Mirza regarded the theme of Common Wealth theme, “A Connected Commonwealth” for the year 2019 of immense importance, and said that our objective is to work together to find solutions for problems shared among the member Countries.

“We envision an interconnected world that worked in unison for various challenges of human security, cross border crimes and terrorism to ensure regional peace and connectivity,” she added.

Dr. Fehmida Mirza reiterated that respect for universal human rights and promotion of Parliamentary democracy for better governance and rule of law had remained the ultimate goals of CPA.

The minister condemned unprovoked violations of Pakistani air space and the continuous threat by Indian leadership and media to initiate war against Pakistan. She also condemned Indian atrocities and human rights violations in Kashmir and highlighted the fact that Pakistan wanted to resolve all outstanding issues through dialogue.
