ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner has said the maintenance of law and order situation is the sole responsibility of the government.

Chief Election Commission Fakhruddin Ebrahim has said without establishing peace and maintaining law and order‚ holding free‚ fair and impartial elections are impossible.

Chairing the commission’s meeting‚ he said holding free and impartial elections in the country is the responsibility of election commission‚ however‚ maintaining law and order situation is the responsibility of caretaker government.

He said Supreme Court also stressed on the need of peaceful environment in the country for polls.

CEC stressed caretaker governments to ensuring law and order.

ECP is reviewing the election preparations including security situation and printing of ballot papers in the meeting. Three members and Secretary ECP are attending the meeting.
