South AsiaPresidential Rule to be imposed in Indian Occupied Kashmir for six months

SRINAGAR: The Presidential Rule will be imposed in the Indian Occupied Kashmir for six months from Thursday.

The decision by the Indian government to impose the Presidential Rule follows the expiry of Governor’s Rule in the Occupied Valley today.

The Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik had recommended the imposition of Presidential Rule in the Valley to the Indian government.

Therefore, as per his recommendations, the Indian government gave its consent to impose the Presidential Rule in Occupied Kashmir from tomorrow for next six months.

The Indian Occupied Kashmir plunged into a political crisis in June 2018 after the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Mehbooba Mufti-led coalition government was reduced to a minority following withdrawal of support by the 25-member Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the State.

Eventually, a six-month Governor’s Rule was imposed in the State, vesting all legislative powers with Governor Narinder Nath Vohra and then Governor Satya Pal Malik following the retirement of his predecessor.
