Captain (retd) Safdar arrested

PoliticsCaptain (retd) Safdar arrested

Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar – who had been awarded one year rigorous imprisonment by the Accountability Court in Avenfield Reference – was arrested by the National Accountability Court (NAB) from 6th Road Rawalpindi on Sunday.

Safdar’s name has also been included in Black List, limiting his movement to inside the Country only.

Meanwhile, the Accountability Court has issued arrest warrants of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Safdar. The NAB has received their arrest warrants.

Captain (retd) Safdar, his wife Maryam Nawaz, and father-in-law & former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif were sentenced to one year, seven years and 10 years imprisonments respectively in Avenfield reference by Islamabad’s Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir on Friday afternoon.

Since Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz were in London for ailing Kulsoom Nawaz, they could not appear before the Accountability Court when the verdict against them was read; however, though Captain (retd) Safdar was in Pakistan, he didn’t appear either.

Captain (retd) Safdar – who also remained the member of National Assembly from 2013 to 2018 – had been vying for NA-14 Mansehra in upcoming general elections 2018 but the Accountability Court along with awarding one-year jail sentence to him, also barred him from contesting any election for next 10 years.
