Monitoring Desk: Unilateral use of force in resolving conflicts must be stopped and UN and its Security Council must act a platform to resolve conflict issues.

This was observed by participants of the IX International Meeting of High-Level Officials Responsible for Security Matters held in Sochi Russia on April 24-26.

Participants spoke out against the unilateral use of force in resolving conflicts.

Participants were of the view that settlement of crises should not bypass the norms and principles of international law, but be resolved through negotiations. Participants noted the growth of unpredictability and conflict potential in international relations. The meeting emphasized the importance of increasing the role of the UN and the UN Security Council as a universal international structure that is called upon to unite the efforts of states in the name of strengthening peace and security.

The forum brought together representatives of 118 countries. One of the main issues of the conference was the discussion of the experience of Russian security experts in organizing mass sports events.

Participants discussed issues of countering terrorist organizations, international information security, as well as the problems of production growth and illegal drug trafficking.
