PoliticsNawaz Sharif demands an end to horse trading in Senate Elections

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday underlined the need for a change in the system, and also said there should be accountability of those involved in horse trading in the Senate Elections.

“Our candidates contested the Senate Election without symbol of lion. Our electoral symbol was also snatched,” Nawaz Sharif said while talking to media representatives after appearing before the Accountability Court in Islamabad.

The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) – whose Candidates contested the Senate Elections 2018 held on March 3 as Independent Candidates following the Supreme Court’s ruling on February 21 – won 15 Seats – 11 from Punjab, 2 from Islamabad and 2 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – emerged as single largest party in the Senate after the polls.

“Now the people also demand respect for their vote,” the former prime minister added.

Meanwhile, the State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb talking to media in Islamabad congratulated the whole Country as the Senate Elections were held in time, adding there had been the stage over which many predictions and analysis were made that the Senate Elections would not be held in time.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said indeed the attempts were made to disappear Pakistan’s biggest political party PML-N’s symbol. She said through a legal verdict PML-N was kept out.

The state minister said now PML-N would have its Chairman of the Senate too.
