RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono has appreciated and acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts towards regional peace and stability, the Inter services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

In a meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Thursday, the foreign minister said that Japan looks forward to enhance its security cooperation with Pakistan especially in the field of counter terrorism.

The foreign minister also informed about Japanese assistance for rehabilitation of temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) and provision of scanning equipment for border crossing points.

The COAS thanked the Japanese foreign minister for his visit and acknowledgment of Pakistan’s efforts towards regional peace and assistance in counter terrorism domain.

Earlier when the Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono has reached the headquarters, he was presented guard of honour and he laid floral wreath at Shuhada monument.

The foreign minister was given briefing on Pakistan’s war on terror and contributions towards regional peace.

The Japanese foreign minister arrived in Islamabad last night to hold wide ranging talks with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and the Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on bilateral issues.

“Japan has also been a major development partner of Pakistan. It has played an important role in the socio-economic development of the Country,” the Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said in a press briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.

“Japan’s Foreign Minister Taro Kono’s visit (to Pakistan) will help further cement our bilateral ties,” he said.
