PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Education Muhammad Atif Khan said on Friday that the provincial government was providing quality education to afghan refugees’ children besides others with its own resources without discrimination to make them useful citizens of the society.

Talking to US Counsel General Raymond McGrath in Peshawar, he said under new education policy of KPK government, the quota of girls schools was increased from 35 percent to 70 percent besides setting up of 1450 community schools.

He said the KPK education budget had been increased from Rs 61 billion to Rs 138 billion with 113 percent increase during last four years.

The IT laboratories has been increased from 179 to 1340 in government schools and Rs 25 billion were spent so far on provision of missing facilities to government schools and 1400,000  children were provided furniture out of 210,000 in schools.

In addition to recruitment of 40,000 teachers strictly on merit, the minister said 15,000 more teachers were being recruited in government schools.

The US counsel general appreciated the efforts made by the KPK government for promoting education sector in the province.
