LAHORE, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday emphasized that the federal and provincial governments should have worked hand-in-hand through matching grant basis to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

While chairing a meeting to review progress on Prime Minister’s Sustainable Goals Development Programme at the Governor House in Lahore at which he was briefed on the progress of various development projects under the programme, Nawaz Sharif said that SDGs implementation would have a positive trickle-down effect on the masses for improving the livelihood.

The prime minister said that improving the living standards of the people of Pakistan was our mission and we were delivering efficiently by the grace of Almighty.

“We should coordinate effectively for implementation of SDGs Program,” he said.

Nawaz Sharif lauded the excellent work undertaken by Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif in leading development initiatives.

The meeting was attended by Governor Punjab Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) central leader Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Ministers Ishaq Dar, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Shahid Khaqan Abbas, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Ahsan Iqbal, Sheikh Aftab, Senator Saud Majeed, Political Secretary to PM Asif Karmani, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, Provincial Minister Malik Nadeem Kamran, PML-N Lahore President Pervaiz Malik, Lord Mayor Lahore Mubashir Javaid and Punjab Chief Secretary Captain (retd) Zahid were also present during the meeting.

The sectoral SDGs programme for Pakistan includes electrification schemes, rehabilitation of electricity distribution infrastructure, gas and natural resources, new schools and up-gradation of existing schools with provision of facilities.

It also include construction of Basic Health Units and Regional Health Centres, up-gradation of existing health facilities, construction and rehabilitation of Farm to Market roads.
