South AsiaUS refuses to comment on Indian claim of “surgical” strike

WASHINGTON, Pakistan: A spokesperson of the US Statement Department on Monday declined to comment on the Indian claim of carrying out “surgical” strike inside Pakistan, and again urged the nuclear-armed states to exercise calm and restraint.

Pakistan has already rejected the Indian claim of surgical strike as an illusion being deliberately generated by India to create false effects. Pakistan has made it clear that if will strongly respond to a surgical strike on Pakistani soil.

US State Department spokesperson Elizabeth Trudeau when asked about the US position on the Indian claim of surgical strike during a press briefing, said she was not going to speak to specific reports of incidents along the border.

She instead urged both Pakistan and India to exercise calm and restrain.

The Spokesperson said militaries of the two countries were in touch and “we believe that continued communication is vital to reduce these tensions”.

The spokesperson again refused to comment when pressed if she could confirm if the Indian strike happened or not.

Responding to a question, Ms. Trudeau said that the United States was in favor of any reduction of tensions that both sides agree to. “We have strong ties with both Pakistan and India, and we’ll engage on that basis,” she added.

To another question, the spokesperson stated that the US position on Kashmir remained unchanged and added that the United States was having conversations with both Pakistan and Indian on the importance of reducing the tensions in the region.
