ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has decided to prepare short and long-term plans to develop innovative projects in field of science and technology for commercial purpose that benefit the society.

An official of the university told APP here Thursday that the establishment of separate “Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC)” is an initiative taken by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui.

He said it was established aimed at maintaining liaison with industrial sector to share latest academic research and innovative ideas in relevant fields.

The office works as a bridge between researchers and the end-users for the application of latest knowledge (new innovation), he added.

The Task Group also decided to hold a national conference of University’s Alumnis in September this year to share their experience and achievements in the field of science and technology.

The University will also work patent’s rights of its scientific products for their commercialization.

An online data bank will also be set up for dissemination of research-based study among the stake-holders. Necessary funding will also be arranged for the purpose.

The Task group also decided to find out opportunities for promoting public-private sector partnership for introducing new technologies and innovations in the agriculture and industrial fields.
