PakistanPakistani, Indian Foreign Secretaries to meet in New Delhi on Tuesday

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry will meet his Indian Counterpart S Jaishankar on Tuesday in New Delhi on the sidelines of the senior officials meeting of the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process.

The second edition of Heart of Asia Conference will take place in New Delhi on Tuesday which will be attended by secretary-level and other high-ranking officials from the United States, China, Russia, Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and other countries.

The Pakistani delegation headed by the Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry will leave for India on Monday to participate in the Conference.

“Pakistan looks forward to active participation in the forthcoming Senior Officials Meeting of the Heart of Asia process reflecting our commitment to efforts for promoting long term peace and stability in Afghanistan,” the Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said in a statement on Monday.

The spokesman said that the Pakistani delegation will also hold bilateral meetings with other leading delegations attending the meeting.

Sources said that Pakistani and Indian Foreign Secretaries will also hold a meeting on the sidelines of the Heart of Asia Conference in which they will likely be discussing the stalled dialogue process between Pakistan and India.

Last Friday, the Spokesperson for Indian External Affairs Ministry Vikas Swarup told newsmen in New Delhi that stalled Indo-Pak dialogue was not ‘suspended’.

The Pakistan-India foreign secretary-level talks were scheduled in January this year but an unfortunate incident at the Indian Air Force (IAF) base in Pathankot caused the halt. Since then, no high-level talks between the two neighbors have taken place.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
