ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain Thursday said that there were extensive opportunities to be tapped to cement the ties between Pakistan and Russia in different fields those could only be capitalized through a proactive diplomacy.

The President said this while talking to Qazi M. Khalilullah, Ambassador-designate of Pakistan to the Russian Federation who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

The President said that both Russian Federation and Pakistan should explore new vistas for peace and prosperity in the region.

He said that bilateral relations between the two countries could be further strengthened in fields of education, technology and other multi-dimensional spheres.

Pakistan Steel Mills was set up with the assistance of Russia in the past and likewise, it was need of the hour to revitalize bilateral ties in the same vein, he added.

The President welcomed Russian investment of $2 billion in energy sector and underscored that the Russian entrepreneurs needed to be convinced to invest more in the energy sector in Pakistan.

The President urged the Ambassador-designate of Pakistan to make efforts to further enhance the volume of bilateral trade between the two countries.
