ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: New Afghan Ambassador Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal paid a courtesy call on Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar here on Saturday.

The minister welcomed Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal on assuming his responsibilities as the new Ambassador of Afghanistan to Pakistan, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance.

The minister on this occasion discussed with the Afghan Envoy current profile of Pak-Afghan economic cooperation with particular emphasis on steps for promoting trade and developing communication linkages.

He said that Pakistan took great pride in relations with the brotherly Islamic country. He made special mention of projects that Pakistan had undertaken in Afghanistan as a goodwill gesture.

Ishaq Dar reiterated the mutual desire of leadership of both countries to take Pak-Afghan all round cooperation to a new high.

The Afghan envoy said he looked forward to making all out efforts to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

He said that there was great scope to build up volume of bilateral trade and augment economic ties and he would particularly focus on these areas.

Senior officials of the Finance Ministry were present on the occasion.
