In a telephone conversation with the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov on Monday, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that Islamic Republic will participate in the upcoming talks on Syria to help find a diplomatic resolution to the crisis in the Arab country.

The next round of Syria talks are set to be held in Vienna on November 12.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister urged all participants in the talks to adopt a realistic approach to help resolve the Syrian crisis. He reiterated that the crisis in Syria should be settled through political means, saying that the people of Syria must be allowed to decide their own future through a democratic process.

In his remarks, Mikhail Bogdanov said that Russia and Iran share a common position regarding the developments in Syria, underlining the necessity of the Islamic Republic’s participation in the Vienna talks.

Earlier on October 30, representatives from 17 nations, United Nations and European Union met in the Austrian Capital to find a solution for Syria but the meeting didn’t yield fruitful results.

However, the participants agreed on respect for Syria’s unity and sovereignty as well as the eradication of extremist groups operating in the Arab country. They stressed that the political process to end the bloodshed there will be Syrian led and Syrian owned.
