ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Monday informed the Senate that several customs duties and tax concessions had been announced for Balochistan for setting up industries in the province.

Winding up discussion on a resolution urging the government to announce concession in customs duties and taxes for the importers of the province of Balochistan, he said that zero duty had been announced for setting up industries within the 30 km of Gwadar deep seaport.

While, only five percent tax had been announced for the establishment of hotels in Balochistan province, he added.

The Minister said the government had also announced concession for establishing fruit processing factories in the province.

“Several concessions have already been granted to Balochistan, and the government will consider further concessions if recommended by the House,” he added.

Responding to another resolution that the government should grant 50 salaries instead of 36 basic salaries under the head of House Building Advance to the federal government employees, he said it was not possible for the government to grant permission as it would have negative impact on the country’s economy.

He said it would also be difficult for the employees to re-pay the advance amount.

He said 2,511 scholarships had been given to students of Balochistan besides the government regularized services of 5,000 teachers.

Vocational training has also been imparted to 5,080 students, he added.
