Social2175 people killed, 5855 in road accidents in 5 years, Senate told

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed Wednesday informed the Senate that around 2175 people lost their lives and 5855 got injuries in 2335 road accidents took place across the country from year 2010 to 2014.

During the question-hour, he said some of the main reasons behind the accidents were old vehicles, long duration of driving and lack of knowledge about traffic rules.

He said efforts were being made to prevent road accidents under which vehicles checking and awareness campaign about traffic discipline was launched on regular basis.

He said quick rescue and relief operations were carried out in accidents taking place on motorways as ambulances were deployed there at a suitable distances all along the artery to save precious lives.
