13 dead as fire breaks out at Lahore’s Anarakali Bazaar

LAHORE, Pakistan: At least 13 persons including a woman and a child were killed when fire broke out in a building at Anarakali Bazaar of Lahore on Monday evening.

The Rescue 1122 personnel were trying to extinguish the fire.

The district coordination officer (DCO) Lahore said that most of the people died as a result of suffocation and not from the blaze itself. He said that a short circuit may have caused it.

The dead bodies were shifted to Mayo Hospital in Lahore.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the incident. He extended condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones and directed the provincial government to beef up rescue and relief efforts.
