Nuclear deal possible if opposite side shows political will, says Iran

VIENNA, Austria: Iran has said that it is possible to reach an agreement to resolve the crisis over its nuclear program before the November 24 deadline if the six world powers show political will.

“We have entered the final phase of the negotiations,” the Iranian Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif said after he arrived in Vienna on Tuesday.

The Islamic Republic of Iran and the US, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany will have one-week negotiations in the Austrian capital, aimed at drafting a final comprehensive deal on Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

The Iranian foreign minister said that Iran has put forward various proposals during its nuclear talks with six world powers to assure them of the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear work.

Zarif said that Iran and the world powers could reach a final nuclear agreement “if the opposite side has the political will to reach a solution” to Iran’s nuclear issue.

The sources close to the Iranian negotiating team said that the main stumbling block in the way of resolving the Western dispute over Iran’s nuclear energy program remains to be the removal of all the bans imposed on the country, and not the number of centrifuges or the level of uranium enrichment.

Iran wants the sanctions entirely lifted while the United States, under pressure from the pro-Israeli lobby, insists that at least the UN-imposed sanctions should remain in place.
