KYIV, Ukraine: The first Session of the newly elected Ukrainian Parliament ‘Verkhovna Rada’ will be held today (Thursday), the Ukrinform news agency reported.

Before the first session begins, the newly elected lawmakers will take the oath before the Parliament, the text of which is determined by Article 79 of the Constitution of Ukraine.

The oldest MP will open the first sitting of the first session of the newly elected Verkhovna Rada.

After that, the preparatory deputy group should report on the work done before the first session of the Verkhovna Rada of the new convocation.

During the first sitting, the temporary presidium of the first session of the newly elected Verkhovna Rada is formed.

In addition, the deputy fractions and deputy groups should be formed at the first sitting.

The lawmakers are also likely to elect the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada and the deputies.

In addition, the Rules stipulate that the President should speak before the newly elected lawmakers with an extraordinary message on Ukraine’s internal and external situation.

At the first sitting of the Parliament, the newly elected members may elect the prime minister and some ministers, in particular, those upon the recommendation of the President.

Snap parliamentary elections were held in Ukraine on July 21. The Servant of the People party garnered the most votes and thus would create a single majority of 254 people’s deputies. At the same time, at least 226 deputies are needed to form a coalition.
