When we look at history, we often see official documents, statistics, and formal agreements. Yet, the true essence of diplomacy lies in human connections. This reality came alive during a memorable gathering in Abu Dhabi.
The distinguished guest, Ambassador Abdullah bin Darwish Al Ketbi, who served as the first UAE ambassador to Pakistan from 1972 to 1975, brought with him not just memories, but also a reminder that relationships are built on trust and friendship, not merely on treaties. Accompanying him was his former Third Secretary, the esteemed Ambassador Abdul Raza Khoori—both key figures in the early chapters of this diplomatic story.
At first glance, the gathering was a celebration. But beneath the surface lay a deeper insight: diplomatic ties are rooted in personal relationships. It was a moment when former and current diplomats sat together, reflecting on how small gestures and early efforts can shape enduring bonds.
Pakistan’s current ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, called the occasion a truly memorable one. He emphasized that the relationship between the two countries goes beyond formal protocols. It is founded on brotherhood and mutual trust—qualities far more lasting and resilient than any treaty. The experiences he gained during his three-year tenure were invaluable, not only for his personal career but also for strengthening the Pakistan-UAE relationship.
Ambassador Abdul Raza Khoori also addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of these bonds: “These relationships are more than protocol—they are built on love and trust. We are always with you.”
From an analytical perspective, this event was not just a nostalgic moment but also a blueprint for future diplomatic engagement. When Faisal Niaz Tirmizi invited everyone to Islamabad and later Moscow, it was more than a courtesy—it was a deliberate strategy to anchor formal relations in genuine human connections.
