Ukraine crises: US, G7 nations agree to impose additional sanctions on Russia

WASHINGTON: The United States and G7 nations have agreed to impose additional sanctions on Russia as early as Monday over the crisis in Ukraine.

In a joint statement released by the White House, the G7 nations said that they will continue broader sanctions on Russian economic, energy and banking sectors, if Moscow takes more aggressive action about Ukraine.

The G7 nations said that they are moving forward on the targeted sanctions now because of the urgency of securing plans for Ukraine to hold presidential elections next month.

Meanwhile, a senior US administration official said that sanctions will vary based on each country’s decision and that US sanctions might come as early as Monday.
