PESHAWAR: The outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Tuesday claimed responsibility for Monday’s attack on a police mobile van in the Poran subdivision of Shangla district which killed five policemen.

TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan said the group would continue to fight against forces that oppose its organisation’s aims.

Earlier on Monday, DSP Khan Bahadar and the other policemen were going to Poran Kotki from Aloch when a bomb went off near their vehicle at Piryanai, some four kilometres from Aloch.

The DSP, his guards Osman and Tauseef, driver Jamial and cook Saeed Anwar, who was from the community police, died and their vehicle was destroyed.

The bodies were taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Poran.

Shangla Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ziaul Haq said the bomb had been detonated by remote control.

The body of DSP Bahadar was sent to his native Peshawra town of Swat Valley for burial. The bodies of other policemen were dispatched to their respective hometowns.
