PakistanPCB chief Zaka Ashraf barred from working, issued notice by IHC

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday barred newly elected Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Zaka Ashraf from working for objections over his election as PCB chief for the next four years.

The IHC today admitted for hearing a petition filed by PCB regional member Ahmed Nadeem Suddle who stated in his plea that Zaka Ashraf has been elected through unfair and non-transparent means.

Suddle pleaded to the court to bar Ashraf from working and declare his election as null and void.

IHC judge Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui took up the petition and issued notice to the PCB chief, barring him from further performing his duties. The court ordered him to submit his reply within a week.

Earlier this month, Ashraf was elected as PCB chief for the next four years, becoming country’s first elected head of the cricket board under a new constitution approved earlier this year in the light of ICC directives.

Ashraf, 60, is PCB chairman since October 2011. He was appointed by President Asif Ali Zardari.
