LAHORE, Pakistan: A powerful bomb explosion took place near the Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh in Lahore on Tuesday that left at least 12 persons including a police assistant sub inspector dead and several others injured.
The Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains said that it was a suicide blast, adding that the target of the attack was the Police Lines but the security measures forced the bomber to detonate his explosives prematurely.
The dead included an ASI Waqar Ahmed while a female constable was also among the injured persons.
The dead bodies and injured persons were shifted to the Mayo and Ganga Ram hospitals in Lahore while an emergency had been imposed.
Meanwhile, heavy contingents of the police and law enforcing agencies cordoned off the area.
President, PM denounce Lahore blast
President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan strongly denounced the Lahore blast.
In their messages, they deplored the loss of precious lives in the incident and directed the concerned authorities to provide best possible medical treatment to the injured.
The Punjab chief minister directed Inspector General Punjab police to probe into the incident and submit report.
