ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Seven more death row prisoners were hanged in different jails of the country on Tuesday morning.

Three convicts were executed in Sukkur, two in Faisalabad while one each in Karachi and Rawalpindi.

The death row convicts Muhammad Talha, Khaleel Ahmad and Shahid Haneef were executed at Central Jail Sukkur.

An anti-terrorism court in Karachi had awarded death penalties to them for killing Syed Zaffar Ali Shah, a then director in the defence ministry, in July 2001.

Two more prisoners Nawazish Ali and Mushtaq Ahmed were executed at the Central Jail Faisalabad because they were found guilty of being involved in an attempt to kill former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf in 2003.

Likewise, Behram Khan was hanged till death at the Karachi Central Prison. He was sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court in June 2003 which found him guilty of killing Advocate Muhammad Ashraf in a courtroom of the Sindh High Court (SHC) in April 2003.

The authorities also hanged Zulfikar Ali at the Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Tuesday morning for killing two policemen near the US Consulate General in Karachi.

With latest executions, the total number of hanged prisoners has reached 15 since Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lifted a moratorium on executions of death row prisoners in the country on December 17.
