RAWALPINDI/KOHAT: Pakistan army took control of Kohat and Hangu districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and curfew was imposed on Monday after violence erupted while in a shooting incident three persons including policemen were killed and two others injured while unknown assailants set ablaze Tirah bazaar.

However, the curfew was later lifted in Hangu after situation returned to normalcy.

The tensed situation occurred in Kohat city when activists from the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) were demonstrating against Friday’s violence in Rawalpindi, unidentified gunmen opened fire on the procession from near a Shia mosque in the area, killing three persons.

Moreover, Pakistan army and police were also called in College Road Rawalpindi after tensed situation prevailed after violence broke out.

According to reports, irked by three-day long curfew in the city, traders took to streets on Monday in protest against the loss of their properties in Friday’s violence in Raja Bazar area.

Hundreds of people, most of them traders and owners of the shops gutted in riots, staged protest demonstration and demanded compensation, chanting slogans against the government.

The traders closed down markets in Sabzi Mandi, Urdu Bazaar, Sarafa Market, Raja Bazar and other business centers as tension prevailed in the city where curfew was lifted this morning.

Upon the fresh agitation despite imposition of Section 144 in the city, the local administration called army in few tense areas, with additional deployment of police.

Roads leading to the violence-hit Raja Bazar have been closed where according to sources few shops are still on-fire and the fire fighters are making efforts to extinguish the blaze.
