KashmirIsrael-India Military Relations: Ideological Paradigms of Security

Monitoring Desk: A Research Report released by BDS India, People’s Dispatch and Newsclick.in has found deep Ideological Paradigms of Security links between India and Israel and throws intellectual light over human rights violations in Kashmir in reference to India-Isreal nexus.

What links the occupation of Palestine and Kashmir, the genocides in Rwanda, Myanmar and Bosnia, and most recently the targeting of students and mainland ‘habitual-protestors’ in India?

In a recent report released by Boycott, Divest and Sanction (BDS, India), they are linked. Seventy percent of Israel’s defence production is for exports, which in turn sustains ‘wars and uses those profits to sustain its military occupation over Palestine’. In fact, the bodies of Palestinians act as field-sites for testing Israel’s defence advancements; the occupation on the other end generates revenue for this industry.

Most alarmingly though, the military relations between the Indian state and Israel, which have been around for at least three decades, have become especially cozy since 2014. In 2018, India purchased 50% of Israel’s exports, totaling to USD one billion. And what came added on with this purchase was the ideology and methodology of repression; perfected in Palestine, exported to Kashmir. This growing collaboration, which deviates from India’s long-standing position at the UN, ties in the growing collaboration between the ideologies of Zionism and Hindutva.

Perhaps worrying to the larger public should be the threat of a growing corporate-driven military industrial complex in India. The continuous effort by the incumbent government to replace security with rights, perhaps most tellingly through it’s action in Kashmir and the CAA, or its intentions to introduce a national Artificial Face Recognition System (AFRS), means that there is an ever growing demand to securtise and militarise the security forces of India.

The arms deals are one aspect of it; but the ‘full spectrum domination’ that requires the use of all forms of torture, intimidation, strikes and violation of rights are sustained, and increasingly profited upon by the private sector. The report’s annexure shows arms of corporate giants like Adani, Punj Lloyd, Wipro, Tata, Mahindra, Ashok Leyland engaged in Joint Ventures with Israeli defence companies.

As Kashmir enters its 174th day of Indian occupation, and given all of the above, it is very clear that Kashmir and Kashmiri bodies have been the field-site for the Indian state to both test and profit from it’s military relations with Israel. This Perpetual Insecurity that the Indian state has perfected in the valley, has led to the legitimising of the violence unleashed there. Once confident of its effectiveness, as seen in the ability to completely close down the valley for close to six months, the Indian state has now expanded this to the mainland. The targeting of Muslims, then students, now anti-CAA protestors, the creation of a constant sense of threat, and thus the constant need to surveil and detain have led to a substantial erosion of the rights and freedoms of the people.

The CAA-NPR-NRC will affect all of India but they will affect Indian Muslims first. The abrogation of Article 370 is an attack on the Indian constitution, but it is the illegal occupation of Kashmir that must remain the focus.

The people of Kashmir, Palestine and other parts of the world are who’s bodies the military complex profits.

The Armed deals between the states are very concerning, but the people of Kashmir, Palestine and other parts of the world are who’s bodies the military complex profits. No one is free until everyone is free; and thus it is important to join the BDS in divesting from Israeli defence companies, support their call for a military embargo on Israel and joining together to resist the interlinked repressive regimes and the corporate profiteering from it.
