KARACHI: Unknown assailants opened fire on a polio vaccination team in Qayyumabad area of Karachi on Tuesday morning, killing three persons including two women.
The incident took place a day after the Sindh health authorities began to inoculate some 7.6 million children of the province with polio vaccine as part of a nationwide drive that is to continue until Thursday.
Police and rescue said that two female workers and their male colleague were administering vaccination to children in Karachi’s Qayyumabad area, but unknown gunmen opened fire on them. They were critically injured in firing and rushed to Jinnah hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah took notice of the attack on polio team in Karachi and sought reported from the IG Sindh.
