QUETTA, Pakistan: Unknown assailants opened fire at a passenger van in Loralai district of Balochistan province on Tuesday, killing at least one passenger and injuring six others including a woman.

The Levies sources said that the firing incident took place in Nana Sahib area of Loralai’s Dukki Tehsil. They said that the passenger van was coming from Luni area and was on its way to Dukki Tehsil when it was attacked by gunmen.

Initially, seven persons including a woman sustained injuries in the attack but later one succumbed to his wounds when they all were being shifted to a nearby hospital for medial treatment.

The sources said that the attackers managed to flee the scene successfully; however, the security forces have launched a search operation in the area.

The southwestern Balochistan continues to remain under the grip of violence for over a decade and under the National Plan of Action, various law enforcement agencies (LAEs) are conducting operations in the province to end militancy.

Earlier this month, the Interior Ministry issued a data, according to which, the LEAs in Balochistan, under measures to counter terrorism in the province, have conducted 1,929 Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) during last one year and arrested 9,074 persons.
