PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The security forces repulsed a cross-border terror attack from Afghanistan on a security Check Post in Kurram agency on Saturday, killing at least two terrorists and leaving five other wounded.

The security sources said that the attackers were heavily armed and when they stormed the Check Post, the Pakistani security forces responded with retaliatory firing.

Resultantly, at least two terrorists were killed whereas five others sustained injuries.

Pakistan and Afghanistan have long been accusing each other of facilitating cross-border attacks in their respective territories. However, both the countries deny such allegations.

The Pakistani leadership has consistently asked the Afghan government to beef up the security at the Pak-Afghan border because since, the military operation Zarb-e-Azb has caused massive losses to terrorists, most of the insurgents have fled to Afghanistan and carrying terror attacks from there.

In the meantime, efforts are underway by the World powers especially Pakistan to resume the talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban groups, aiming at to end militancy and bring peace in the region.

The latest effort of the series took place earlier this month when Pakistan co-hosted the Heart of Asia Conference in Islamabad to bring all stake holders on the table for initiating joint efforts to not only turn Afghanistan into a stable and peaceful country but bring prosperity in the region as well.

The Pakistan Army Chief General Raheel Sharif’s planned visit to Kabul on December 27 is also part of such endeavors.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
