Blast near pilgrims bus in Mastung, 22 killed

QUETTA: At least 22 persons were killed and 35 others sustained injuries when a powerful explosion occurred near a bus carrying Shia pilgrims in Dringhar area of Balochistan’s troubled Mastung district on Tuesday evening.

The bus was coming from Iran to Quetta via Taftan when it was attacked in Dringhar area, on the main Quetta-Taftan Highway in Mastung district, some 50 kilometres southwest of Quetta.

The Assistant Commissioner in Mastung Shafqat Anwar said that said the bus caught fire and was destroyed completely.

The security forces and rescue teams rushed to the blast site and started moving the injured and bodies to hospital after cordoning off the area.

Meanwhile, President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Hazara Democratic Party strongly condemned the incident and expressed sympathies with the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls.

On the other hand, Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) and Tahafuz-E-Azadari Council announced three-day mourning against the attack on pilgrims bus in Mastung.
