Regional TerrorismATC adjourns Musharraf’s indictment till Aug 20 in Benazir murder case

RAWALPINDI: Former President Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday could not be produced in anti-terrorism court of Rawalpindi on security reasons, prompting the judge to put off his indictment once again in former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s murder case.

Reporters’ entry has also been banned in the court.

Musharraf’s lawyer Ilyas Siddiqui told the court that it was not safe enough to bring the former military chief to the court due to security reasons. He prayed to the judge Chaudhry Habib Urrehman to grant exemption to his client from personal appearance in the court.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) prosecutor Chaudhry Azhar said that since Musharraf is on pre-arrest bail, he is therefore responsible himself for his appearance.

The court granted exemption to Musharraf for today’s appearance, adjourning his indictment till August 20 and issued production ordered for Musharraf who is chief of his party – All Pakistan Muslim League (APML).
