KABUL: The Afghan Taliban have strongly condemned the drone attack that killed Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud and described it as “a big loss.”

A US drone strike killed the outlawed militant group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Hakimullah Mehsud as it targeted his vehicle when he was leaving from a meeting at a mosque Dande Darpakhel area of North Waziristan tribal region on Friday evening.

“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan strongly condemns this terror act by America and describes the martyrdom of Mullah Hakimullah Mehsud as a big loss,” the Taliban said in a statement. “America cannot create a vacuum or achieve their evil goals by martyring mujahideen.”

The Afghan Taliban, moreover, urged Pakistan to prevent any further US drone strikes.

“The Islamic Emirate calls on the Pakistani people and government to make more effort than at any other time to prevent such brutal attacks by the American invaders,” said the statement.
