RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Afghan Border Police opened fire on Frontier Corps (FC) officials deployed for security of Population Census team in Balochistan’s Chaman area, resulting in death of one civilian.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the firing by the Afghan Border Police took place along the Chaman border which also caused injuries to 18 individuals including four FC Balochistan soldiers.
The ISPR said that since April 30, the Afghan Border Police had been creating hurdles in conduct of census in divided villages of Killi Luqman and Killi Jahangir in Charnan area on Pakistani side of the border.
It said that this was done despite the fact that Afghan authorities had been informed well in advance and coordination was carried out through diplomatic and military channels for conduct of census.
Meanwhile the exchange of fire continues whereas the Chaman border has been crossing closed, the IPSR further said.
