BEIRUT: A huge car bomb blast rocked Beirut’s southern suburbs, a stronghold of Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, on Thursday killing at least 20 persons and injuring 120 others, officials said.

The blast occurred in the area between Bir el-Abed and Roueiss neighborhoods, officials said.

According to reports, many civilians are still trapped in the buildings adjacent to the site of the blast.

A group calling itself the Brigades of Aiysha has claimed responsibility for the blast.
