15 militants including foreigners killed in North Waziristan air strikes

PESHAWAR: At least 35 militants including foreigners were killed and scores of others injured when air strikes were carried out last night targeting suspected militant hideouts in three different tehsils of the North Waziristan tribal region, security sources said.

The security sources said that militant hideouts in Dattakhel, Shawan and Mir Ali were targeted. They said that a cache of arms and ammunition were also destroyed in the air strikes.

The airstrikes occurred hours after the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) announced conditions for a ceasefire with the government.

Talking to media from an undisclosed location on Wednesday, the TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said that the group is ready to ceasefire if the government stops the dumping of bodies of Taliban members.

The TTP spokesman said that the arrests of Taliban activists and their killings in police encounters should be stopped. Moreover, he said that the government committee should provide assurance to the Taliban committee.
