GARDEZ, AFGHANISTAN: At least 13 people were killed and 15 others were injured in a suicide bomb attack in Paktia province of Afghanistan on Monday, police said.

Police said that the suicide bomber targeting a US military convoy detonated a motorbike packed with explosives outside a boys’ high school near the office of the governor of Paktia province.

The bomber struck at about 11:30am next to Samkani Boys High School as the convoy of US soldiers and members of the Afghan Local Police (ALP) was nearby.

“There were American soldiers and ALP close to the high school when the bomber detonated his explosives,” Paktia police Chief General Zalmai Oriakhil said.

The victims were mostly school students and it is not clear if there were any American casualties.
