SportsT20 no longer a young man's game: Wasim Akram

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Former skipper Wasim Akram feels that the performance of senior players in the inaugural Pakistan Super League (PSL) has falsified the notion that T20 cricket is just a young man’s game, also adding Islamabad United peaked at the right time to clinch inaugural PSL.

“When Twenty20 cricket started some seven to eight years ago it was thought it was young man’s game. But the reality is that in this format experience also matters,” he said in his comments after the final of PSL between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators at Dubai.

Wasim, who is also director of Islamabad United team, particularly mentioned the performance of seasoned DR Smith and BJ Haddin saying that they had been regular contributors in Islamabad United’s wins. Smith and Haddin made 73 and 61 respectively in the final and played a key role in team’s victory.

The former cricket great said that he was thrilled at the win stating that it was an incredible journey for Islamabad United.

He also acknowledged Coach Dean Jones contributions saying that he did a great job in team’s win.

Hailing the overall performance of Islamabad United he said, “They played together, they gelled and peaked at the right time.”

He thanked his family, fans and entire nation for backing Islamabad United. “I’m thankful to my wife, kids and all the family members for supporting Islamabad United. I’m also thankful to whole Pakistani nation. They have been watching PSL matches on television and supporting all PSL teams,” he added.
