PALLEKELE: Pakistan were 69 runs behind Sri Lanka’s first innings total with just one wicket remaining at stumps on the second day of the third and final test at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

When second day of Pallekele Test ended, the greenshirts were 209 for 9 in their first innings against Sri Lanka.

The wicket-keeper batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed was still at the crease along with Imran Khan. Sarfaraz was at 72 while Imran was yet to open his account.

The right-hand batsman Azhar Ali also scored a half century before he got out at 52.

Earlier, Sri Lanka resumed their first innings at the outset of day two and were bowed out for 278 runs. The opening batsman FDM Karunaratne remained the highest scorer with 130 runs.

For Pakistan, the leg spinner Yasir Shah picked up five wickets. The fast bowler Rahat Ali got three while another spinner Azhar Ali bagged two wickets.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
