PALLEKELE: Pakistan require another 147 runs with eight wickets in hand to win the third Test as well as the three-match series against Sri Lanka.
In their second innings on fourth day on Monday at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pakistan were 230 for 2 at stumps with Shan Masood and Younis Khan still at the crease with 114 and 101 runs respectively.
Earlier at the outset of fourth day of third Test match, Sri Lanka resumed their second innings at 228 for 5. But they were all out for 313 runs and set a victory target of 377 runs for Pakistan.
The Sri Lankan Captain AD Mathews remained the highest scorer for his side with 122 runs while LD Chandimal scored 67 runs.
For Pakistan, Imran Khan picked up five wickets while Rahat Ali and Yasir Shah grabbed two wickets each. One wicket was taken by Ahsan Adil.
While chasing a target of 377 runs set by Sri Lanka to win the match, Pakistan lost two early wickets for only 13 runs but then Shan Masood and Younis Khan jointly scored 217 runs, making the highest fourth-innings partnership ever for Pakistan.
Their partnership still remains intact and will continue on the final day of the Test match on Tuesday.
If Pakistan win the third Test, it will be the highest target, Pakistan have successfully chased in test matches and sixth highest achieved by any international cricket team against the opposition.
