COLOMBO: The 120-run second-wicket partnership between Ahmed Shahzad and Azhar Ali in the second innings brought Pakistan back in the game on third day of the second Test match against Sri Lanka at the P Sara Oval in Colombo on Saturday.

In response to Pakistan’s 138 runs in the first innings, the Sri Lankan team had scored 315 runs, taking a lead of 177 runs.

As the match entered third day on Saturday, Sri Lanka resumed their first innings at 304 runs for 9 but they could add only 11 more runs in their total score before they were bowled out.

Yasir Shah took the final wicket and ended his excellent bowling spell with six wickets. The last Sri Lankan player whom Yasir Shah bowled out was Dushmantha Chameera.

When Pakistan began their second innings, Muhammad Hafeez departed early for just 8 runs. Later, Ahmed Shahzad and Azhar Ali established a second-wicket partnership of 120 runs but then Ahmed Shahzad got out for 69 runs.

When third’s play concluded on Saturday evening, Pakistan were 171 for 3 while Azhar Ali and Younis Khan were at the crease with 64 and 23 runs respectively.
